Mr Mathew Ranganai joined the Scientific & Industrial Research & Development Centre (SIRDC) as a Research Scientist in the Biotechnology Research Institute in 1999. In 2002, he was re-assigned to the National Metrology Institute (NMI) and rose through the ranks to Senior Research Scientist, Principal Research Scientist before becoming the NMI Director in 2007. He also served as the Acting Director of the Energy Technology Institute from 2017-2018. Mr Ranganai holds a B Tech (Hons) and M Sc degree in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology from the University of Zimbabwe and Central South University of Technology (China), respectively. He also possesses Advanced Analytical Skills acquired through overseas technical programmes on Professional Skills Development undertaken at the Universities of Helsinki (Finland), Surrey (UK) and Delft (the Netherlands). He is currently a critical stage gate team member of the SIRDC Centre for Analytical Services. He has extensive knowledge and experience in Metrology acquired through rigorous training and working visits to some of the World Class Metrology Facilities which include, the National Metrology Institutes (NMIs) of, USA (NIST), Germany (PTB), Finland, the Netherlands, Korea (KRISS), India, South Africa and the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) in France. Mr Ranganai has published and presented several technical and scientific papers at seminars, symposia and workshops in countries such as Japan (Chiba Institute), Singapore, Finland (University of Helsinki), USA, the Netherlands, to mention, but a few. With regard to Board membership, Mr Ranganai is the Chairperson of the Trade Measures Board (Ministry of Industry and Commerce) and Deputy Chairperson (Scientific Metrology) of the Intra Africa Metrology System (AFRIMETS). He chaired the SADC Cooperation in Measurement Traceability (SADCMET) from 2009-2011. SADCMET is a grouping of all NMIs in the SADC region. He is also a SADC Working Group member on Chemical Metrology and Zimbabwe’s resource person for the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and a member (Chairing the Sub-committee on Compliance) of the Zimbabwe National Authority for the Chemical Weapons Convention, representing SIRDC since 1999.
