Dr Leonard Madzingaidzo is the Chief Executive Officer of SIRDC since 1 July 2023. Prior to this appointment, Dr Madzingaidzo was the Executive Director – Technical, superintending over the work programmes of the 12 SIRDC research institutes. He joined SIRDC in February 2000 as a Research Scientist in the Biotechnology Research Institute and assumed the position of Acting Director of the Institute from May 2002 until September 2003. Dr Madzingaidzo was then appointed substantive Director of the newly established Food and Biomedical Technology Institute in March 2003, and briefly led two research institutes, concurrently. In January 2005, he was elevated to the position of Executive Director – Technical. Before joining SIRDC, Dr Madzingaidzo had working stints namely, at the Dairy Marketing Board (now Dairibord Zimbabwe Limited), Standards Association of Zimbabwe and Cairns Foods Limited. Over the years, he has gained valuable experience in Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Research and Development, Technology Transfer, Commercialisation, and Management of Intellectual Property Assets. An accomplished leader and scholar, Dr Madzingaidzo holds a Bachelor of Technology (Hons) degree in Applied Biology and Biochemistry (1 st Class) from the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) obtained in 1992; MSc in Biotechnology (Merit) from UZ obtained in 1994; and PhD in Biotechnology and Biochemical Technology (Suma Cum Laude) from the Vienna University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (BOKU) Austria, obtained in 1999. He is a beneficiary of Academic Scholarships from the Government of Zimbabwe; The Netherlands: Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS) for MSc Studies at UZ and Free University of Amsterdam; and the Austrian Government through the Austrian Academic Exchange Service (OeAD) for Doctorate studies at BOKU and Vienna University of Technology. Prof Tawanda Mushiri joined the Scientific & Industrial Research & Development Centre (SIRDC) Executive Director – Technical (ED-Tech) on 1 March 2024. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, MSc in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management (MSOM) and a PhD in Engineering focusing on fuzzy logic systems (Artificial Intelligence - AI). He has several certifications in Artificial Intelligence including Data Science, Machine Learning and Deep Learning. He has supervised university students in BSc, MSc, and PhD in areas of Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, AI, and Biomedical Engineering. Professor Mushiri is currently a Council Member of the Medical Rehabilitation Practitioners Council of Zimbabwe. He has previously served as Co-Chairperson of the Public Relations and Fundraising Committee of Sally Mugabe Central Hospital. He is a former Board Member of the Zimbabwe Standards Association (SAZ)’s Tariff Code Classification for Solar Products and Solar Photovoltaic Systems Technical Committee, Zimbabwe Standard. Professor Mushiri is also a former Board Member of the ISOlutions SAZ Zimbabwe Standard. His notable achievements include the design and installation of: • automated national vehicle number plate plant for use by the Central Vehicle Registry, • automated bread making plant, and • automated sanitiser production plant. His main research focus is on the Robotic First Aid (RFA) systems to reduce Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) and Disease Prediction Modelling using Artificial Intelligence. He has managed to do projects and grants up to USD$3,5m. Eng. Mary Nyaradzayi Hughslar Chikuruwo is the Director of the Production Engineering Institute (PEI) at the Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC) from July 2023. Prior to this appointment, she was the Head of the Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Department at the Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) where she taught and supervised student projects. She has over nine years’ experience in the manufacturing industry, having started her career as a professional Fitter and Turner, excelling as a maintenance fitter in both underground and open cast mines. Her areas of expertise encompass reliability engineering, industrial automation and machine intelligence. She has made immense contributions in areas such as vibration monitoring, machine condition monitoring, reliability prediction using artificial intelligence, and maintenance planning and scheduling. Her dedication to advancing these fields underscores her commitment to driving innovation and excellence. Currently, she is pursuing a Ph D degree in Reliability Engineering with the Namibia University of Science and Technology. She holds a Master of Technology degree in Engineering Design (JNTUH, India) and a Master of Engineering degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Operations Management (NUST, Zimbabwe) as well as a bachelor's degree in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering from HIT. Eng Chikuruwo has extensively published her research work in reputable journals and has also presented at international conferences. She is an active member of the Zimbabwe Institution of Engineers, Engineering Council of Zimbabwe, and the South African Institute of Industrial Engineers.

Mr Isaiah Samukupe holds a B Sc (Hons) degree in Economics from the University of Zimbabwe and an M Sc degree in Banking and Financial Services from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). He is also a holder of a Master’s degree in Business Leadership from Bindura University of Science Education. Additionally, he holds a Graduate Certificate in Business Management and Entrepreneurship from the University of Johannesburg. Mr Samukupe is a recipient of several awards which include; NUST Book Prize for overall best Student in the Faculty and the Vice Chancellor’s Award for best research thesis (2014), Book prize for Best Student in Corporate Finance from the Institute of Bankers Zimbabwe (2004), and the Best Student overall in Business Management and Entrepreneurship at the University of Johannesburg (2010). In 2005, Mr Samukupe joined the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority as a Revenue Trainee. He successfully completed training in 2007 and became a Revenue Specialist in the Taxation and Customs Audit Department, a position he held until he left the Authority in 2008 to pursue further studies in the Republic of South Africa. Upon his return from South Africa in 2011, he joined SIRDC as a Financial Analyst in the Business Operations Unit. In 2016, he was seconded to South Korea to join the Korea Africa Food and Agriculture Initiative (KAFACI) Secretariat as an International Coordinator and Project Manager. Upon his return in 2017, he rose through the ranks to the positions of Senior Financial Analyst and Principal Financial Analyst in the Business Operations Unit. In 2022, he was elevated to the position of Director of Administration at SIRDC. Mr Samukupe has extensive knowledge and experience in Economic Analysis, Project Management, Taxation, Financial Analysis, Costing and Systems Development through rigorous training and working visits to international research centres such as the Rural Development Administration of the Republic of Korea. Mr Samukupe is an Associate member of professional bodies that include: the Chartered Governance and Accountancy Institute in Zimbabwe (CGAIZ), Institute of Bankers Zimbabwe (IOBZ) and Institute of Risk Managers South Africa (IRMSA). His areas of research interest include: agricultural financing, technopreneurship, organizational performance, and research and development as it relates to improved organisational performance.

Engineer Fred Gweme is a professional Electronics and Computer Engineer. He has extensive experience in the design and development of Engineer Fred Gweme is a professional Electronics and Computer Engineer. He has extensive experience in the design and development of new and innovative Information and Communication Technology (ICT) products and systems. He holds a BSc (Eng) Hons degree and an MPhil degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Zimbabwe. He also acquired an Executive MBA degree from the East and Southern African Management Institute (ESAMI). In 1997, Eng Gweme joined the Scientific and Industrial Research and Development Centre (SIRDC) where he has worked in various capacities, first as a Research Scientist in the Informatics and Electronics Institute. In 2004, the institute was split into two, the Informatics Institute and the Electronics and Communications Institute. Eng. Gweme was subsequently elevated to become the inaugural Director of the newly formed Electronics and Communications Institute. He led a team of Electronic and Communication engineers and technicians that successfully designed, manufactured and commercialised a wide range of science laboratory and teaching equipment. In 2007, he joined SIRTECH, the commercial wing of SIRDC, as the General Manager of the Electronics production unit. He was later appointed the Director of the Informatics Institute in 2010 to lead a team of ICT specialists in the design and development of various software products. In February 2024, he was appointed the Director of ICT when it was separated from the Informatics Institute. He was later appointed the Director, Technical Support and Quality Assurance, in February 2026, a post he has held to date. Eng Gweme is a registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe, a Fellow and former Board member of the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers, a Council member of the Women’s University in Africa (WUA) and sits on the Management Board of the Emerald Hill School of the Deaf. Eng. Gweme is an Editorial team member for the POTRAZ ICT Research Journal, which was launched in 2024. He was a member of the National e-Waste Management Task Team which was mandated to spearhead the formulation of a National e-Waste Handling and Management Policy for Zimbabwe. Eng Gweme has published a number of papers and has written and presented papers at various forums.

Dr Philemon Kurima Kwaramba is the Director of the Partnerships & Resource Mobilization Unit at SIRDC. He has served SIRDC for over 26 years in various capacities which include: Director of Business Operations Unit (2005 - 2023); Deputy Programmes Manager for a NORAD-funded Technology for Industrial Development Programme (1999 - 2002) on Manufacturing SMEs Support and Industrial Economist/Research Scientist (1998 - 2004). Dr Kwaramba also had working stints as Economics Investigator with ICRISAT Southern Africa (1992 - 1993), Health Economist at NHIR (formerly Blair Research Laboratory, 1995-6) and Economist with Friedrich Ebert Foundation. Dr Kwaramba holds a B Sc Hon degree in Agric Economics, PG Diploma in Agricultural Engineering Systems Analysis, M Sc degree in Agric Econ, C. Dip AF (UK) and a D Phil degree in Development Economics. He was awarded the following scholarships: National Scholarship to Study A-Level Sciences (1987 - 88) after emerging among the top O-Level students in Mashonaland Wes Province; United Nations Office of Projects Services Fellowship for PG Diploma Agricultural Engineering Systems Analysis (1993) and a SADC/SACCAR/GTZ Scholarship (1994 - 1995) for M Sc Agricultural Economics. Kudzanayi is the Manager for the Seed Division under Zimbabwe Technological solutions (ZTS). He has worked as a technical salesperson and as an Agricultural consultant for 4 years assisting farmers with putting together their crop and animal related projects.
