SIRDC has 11 research and development (R&D) clusters, each with a unique mandate and focus area. In addition, there are 9 Support clusters that are meant to serve the R&D clusters to enhance their activities. The Clusters are arranged as follows:

The cluster pioneers agricultural transformation through cutting-edge Research and Development in plant and livestock.

Built Environment and Transport Systems

The cluster provides innovative solutions for sustainable buildings and cities, transport and infrastructure systems, waste management and rural development facilities.

Energy and Power

The cluster focuses on research and development activities in the areas of energy management, automation and electrical, renewable energy and electronic systems.

Health

The cluster focuses on the One Health approach, which recognizes the deep interconnection between human, animal, and environmental health, promoting integrated efforts across sectors to prevent and manage health risks, including emerging zoonotic diseases.

Industry and Manufacturing

Focuses on developing innovative technologies and processes to enhance industrial competitiveness and manufacturing capabilities. It includes calibration of industrial equipment, 3D designing, production and maintenance of industrial equipment.

Information and Communication Technology

The cluster drives innovation in computing, software, networking, and data systems to enable breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence, quantum computing, and next generation networks transforming industries, empowering societies, and tackling global challenges.

Mining and Mineral Beneficiation

The cluster carries out research and development in mining, mineral processing technologies, polymer and material sciences, embracing circular economy.

Small and Medium Enterprise

The cluster supports SMEs through research, assessments, capacity building, and technology and innovation support, while also promoting formalisation and influencing policy to create an enabling environment for sustainable growth.

Water and Environment

The cluster provides environmental and geospatial research, consultancy, and training, supporting sustainable industrialisation, community empowerment, and policy decisions through advanced geospatial technologies and data-driven solutions.

Commercialisation

The cluster is responsible for marketing and distribution of research and development outputs through Zimbabwe Technological Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of SIRDC.
