Africa-UniNet is an Austrian-African research network established to promote long-term collaboration between universities and research institutions in Austria and Africa, funded by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Women's Affairs, Science and Research (BMFWF).
The network fosters scientific partnerships, innovative joint research projects, and knowledge exchange aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Africa-UniNet has over 70 active members across 17 African countries. It provides funding opportunities for collaborative research projects involving Austrian and African institutions. The network offers capacity-building programs, including exchange visits, workshops, and further education measures. Africa-UniNet serves as a platform for academic cooperation and networking to strengthen research impact and international collaboration. It supports inclusive market system development, healthy diets, sustainable consumption, and policy influencing in research programs. The network encourages projects that contribute to climate resilience, sustainability, & socio-economic development. Governance includes a General Assembly with country representatives, and a Board consisting of Austrian and African members. Africa-UniNet organizes calls for project proposals, typically funding research-based, cross-continental collaborations for up to two years with grants up to 40,000 euros.
