The Central Mechanical Department (CMD) is charged with the responsibility of planning and executing infrastructural projects at SIRDC. The department is responsible for the maintenance of both infrastructure and equipment. CMD also gives technical back up to all SIRDC institutes. It is also responsible for ensuring a constant supply of water at the Centre for both human use and for irrigation. CMD also maintains the irrigation system installations at the Centre.
The Central Mechanical Department is a service unit responsible, in the main, for the day-to-day transportation of staff to and from work. The department also provides institutes and departments with transport to various sites and destinations enabling them to carry out their research, hence we are the nerve Centre of the organization.
The department regularly maintains the organisation’s fleet of vehicles to reduce running costs.
Safety of personnel and property is upper most in the discharge of our duties.
